We are a local non-profit chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America (SAGA) located in Greenville, South Carolina. We organized in 2002 with the purpose of offering exciting opportunities for anyone interested in heirloom needlework. You are invited to visit one of our monthly meetings where we try to learn more about the art and improve our skills while sharing our love of many types of needlework, especially smocking. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, we encourage you to join us.

As a SAGA chapter, we are dedicated to "preserving and fostering the art of smocking and related needlework for future generations through education, communication and quality workmanship."

Most of the website is available to anyone who wishes to use it, but some sections are available only to our registered members. To register, please contact us, providing your name, SAGA number, and email address.

We meet on the 4th Thursday of every month, except November and December when we have a combined meeting on the 1st Thursday in December. Click the map above for directions.

About us

We are a group with a wide age span and many levels of expertise, however, we come together with a common bond of love for heirloom needlework.

You may find us learning about smocking, fine machine sewing, embroidery, basic construction, or some other form of needlework.

No one in our group knew all the other members before we came together to form the Palmetto Pleaters.

Some of us are excited about making beautiful things for our own babies, children or grandchildren. Others do not even need an excuse for wanting to put needle to fabric.

Some of us are located quite close to the meeting site, but others drive for hours to attend meetings. Our diversity makes us interesting.

We would love for you to come for a visit!
